Why choose MA in Theatre Studies?
The MA in Theatre Studies Programme (MA-TS) combines text-based studies with performance, theory with practice, and philosophical ideas with stage visualization. Students in the programme will be given training in writing performance critiques. The programme is critical- and research-oriented, in which students will have to explore theoretical issues based on actual performances.
With the support of various organizations, MA-TS will arrange research visits to the following organizations:
- Centre for Ibsen Studies, University of Oslo, Norway
- International Association of Theatre Critics (Hong Kong)
- Hong Kong Repertory Theatre
Admission Requirements
Applicants should have:
1. A Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university or equivalent;
AND
2. Fulfilment of one of the following English language proficiency requirements if the applicant’s Bachelor’s degree was not obtained from a university/tertiary institution where English is the medium of instruction:
- TOEFL: 550 (Paper-based); 79 /4.0 (Internet-based / TOEFL iBT*)
- IELTS (Academic): 6.5 / IELTS Online*
- CET-6: 430;
- TEM-4: 70;
- TEM-8: 65; OR
- Equivalent of the above.
AND
Prior knowledge of drama.
*TOEFL and IELTS results are considered valid two years from the test date.
Application Procedures
- Register an account in the Postgraduate Admission System
- Login and complete all the required sections on the Postgraduate Admission System
- Receive an application number
- Settle the application fee
- Check your application status regularly
- Selected applicants will be invited to attend an interview
